Meetings

Kids? Carriers? Questions? Bring them all.

BWI of Greater Houston (BWIGH) hosts several types of gatherings as part of our mission: to offer information and support to families who wish to use carriers as part of their caregiving practices. Please check our Facebook page or the Google calendar for all our events.

Educational Meetings

… are free meetings that begin with a brief presentation on airway safety, spine and hip development, and carrier types, then break up into groups for one-on-one help according to carrier type or special topic. All children, caregivers, and expectant families are welcome. Bring any carriers you have questions about, or try out the carriers in our library. If you become a BWIGH member, you can borrow a carrier from one meeting until the next, for about a month.

… are held

  • the first Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon (Bay Area / 45S)*
  • the second Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon (Northeast / Kingwood),
  • the third Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon (North / I45N@1960),
  • the third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon (Near West / 10@8),
  • the fourth Friday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon (Museum District / Central).

*The Bay area meeting is currently a playdate, with no library check outs.
Please check the calendar for the most accurate information

To maintain a comfortable environment for all those attending meetings, we ask that you please try to use only unscented toiletries and cosmetics before coming to a meeting. If that is not possible, please don’t worry; and simply try to avoid applying any toiletries for their scent alone (perfumes, colognes, strongly scented deodorants, and the like).

Socials

… are opportunities to relax and enjoy each others’ kids, carriers, and company while building our awesome babywearing community. Volunteer Babywearing Educators (VBEs) and VBE Trainees always attend to help answer questions.

Adventures

… are also informal, but they are more activity-oriented meetups. Of course,
we still allow ample time for socializing and any questions you may have. VBEs and VBE Trainees can bring extra carriers in case there’s something you’d like to try.

Workshops

… are occasional classes with a focused topic, often involving advanced techniques. We may limit class size to make sure our VBEs are able to give plenty of attention to attendees and may also suggest a donation to raise funds for the chapter

Your suggestions and requests

We love Houston, but we don’t know everything about it. If you have an idea for a fun BWIGH meeting, know of an event we should all go to, or have a support group that would like to invite an educator to speak, we want you to tell us about it!

For meeting locations, please check the calendar to the right or on Facebook.

We hope to see you soon!
